GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to provide an update on the ongoing flood situation in the state. In their meeting, Sarma apprised the Prime Minister about the steps taken by the state government to offer relief and rehabilitation to the affected individuals and communities. The Prime Minister commended the efforts made by the Assam government in dealing with the flood situation and assured Sarma of the central government's full support and assistance.
Furthermore, Sarma discussed various development initiatives implemented by the state government with Prime Minister Modi. He emphasized Assam's progress in terms of key indicators, including revenue mobilization, during a detailed 55-minute discussion. Sarma expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Finance for its generous support in terms of capital assistance and the advance release of devolution funds. These initiatives have enabled Assam to expedite welfare-oriented programs and capital expenditure.
The meeting between Sarma and Prime Minister Modi highlights the priority given to Assam's well-being by the central government. “I had the privilege of seeking blessings of respected Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in Delhi. Assam’s well-being remains the top priority for Hon’ble PM. I apprised him on our developmental journey and received his kind guidance on the way forward,” Sarma tweeted.
Additionally, Sarma also met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss various financial-related matters pertaining to Assam. The Chief Minister presented an overview of the state's financial scenario and highlighted the progress made by Assam in key areas. He acknowledged the Ministry of Finance's support in terms of capital assistance and the advance release of devolution funds, acknowledging their significant role in accelerating welfare programs and capital expenditure in the state.
